The Seismic Tailwind... All new core and all new urethane packed into 83mm of speed!
The Tailwind benefits from 20 years of tinkering with their wheels, urethane compounds and core shapes. Right now, for a wheel around this size there isn't much out there that can compare in terms of pure efficiency.
That efficiency comes from:
-
The "Fusion" core
- A smaller version of the Turbine core found on the Megawatt, with all of the benefits!
- Big 46mm core offers great support to the urethane to keep it round and rolling fast
- Stiff edges and "turbines" to increase energy return whilst rolling
-
The DEFCON urethane
- Arguably the fastest urethane in the world
- Set the downhill speed record as well as 1-mile, marathon and 24h records
At 83mm they are a specialist wheel - a little too big to whack under your pintail and expect not to get wheelbite.
However for any dropped deck with cutouts, have at it! Upgrading from a stock wheel you will notice the increase in speed the first time you push off - guaranteed.
This makes it an absolute beast for covering miles - be it a commute or a full on distance journey. Whilst it won't hold speed as long as the , it will accelerate quicker off the traffic lights and so use less energy in an urban environment than the bigger wheel.
The grip is great too, making for an awesome wheel to pump. The slight concave in the rolling surface means there is more urethane on the lips of the wheel to deform and really hold onto the tarmac for the maximum grip levels possible.
However this does also mean that while they can be slid - as all wheels can - it won't be a friendly one to learn to slide on! Sliding a wheel like this takes speed, control and conviction.
The Seismic Tailwind is aptly named - you'll be questioning whether you indeed have a wind helping you along when you're rolling on these beauties. An awesome high-end wheel in a great in-between diameter that's civilised round town and not afraid to put the miles in when asked. Awesome.
